Andrew is an senior associate specialising in intellectual property. Andrew has extensive experience of all areas of ip, in relation to both contentious and non-contentious work. Andrew’s contentious work includes acting for a hi-tech manufacturer in a successful claim in relation to electronic circuit design and software, against both one of its former designers and a competitor company, which involved unregistered design right and copyright infringement and a dispute over ownership of those rights; advising a uk manufacturer on a number of patent and design right claims and providing it with patent clearance advice; and brand enforcement for major international brands, including action against the online sale of counterfeit products. Andrew’s non-contentious work includes acting for a us-based international software company in the difficult and long running negotiation of a trade mark co-existence agreement with a uk-headquartered software company relating to a core brand of both parties; advertising advice to major retailers, including advertising clearance advice, advice on the cap code and asa complaints; advising on the ip issues arising in corporate transactions and insolvencies; and advising on ip licence agreements, software licences and escrow agreements and advising on pfi contracts. Andrew holds the diploma in ip law and practice from bristol university. Andrew holds the Diploma in IP Law and Practice from Bristol University. He has spoken on IP law and related issues at many public- and education-sector events, as well as providing internal training on design law.
