Iyad Zawaideh

Iyad is a partner in amman, he is both us and jordan qualified specialist in corporate commercial law with particular expertise in providing advice in relation to project finance and public private partnerships(ppp’s). In previous roles, iyad has been responsible for drafting and negotiating various contracts and commercial agreements for corporate and individual clients in both the private and public sectors, setting up and advising on all aspects of joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions. Key projects that iyad worked on vary from the government of jordan in relation to the jordan iraq oil pipeline, ipp3 (a 572 mw hfo fired plant) and ipp4 (a 250mw peaking hfo fired plant), and other large energy projects. The royal dutch shell in negotiating an oil shale concession agreement with the government of jordan. Opec and ifc in relation to the financing of the disi water conveyance project. And aes/mitsui in the first successful ipp concession in jordan. Prior to joining eversheds and returning to work in amman-jordan in 2002, iyad was an associate attorney at a small boutique corporate, real estate and litigation practice in downtown manhattan in new york city. In the past two years, iyad has been focusing on the solar and renewable energy projects in amman jordan. Iyad and his team are currently working on 10 out of the 12 solar power projects and advised on the acquisition of one round 1 wind project, and currently advising on another wind project that are qualified by the ministry of energy and mineral resources (memr) in round one. For round 2 solar iyad and his team are representing 3 out of 4 solar projects. Two of iyad’s major representations are of mitsubishi and a qatari investor jointly in their majority acquisition of the largest solar power project in round 1 (a 50 mw project) and of a norwegian solar developer whose solar power project was the first to reach financial close in jordan’s history. Iyad’s team representation for each project varies from the project companies, the epc contractor, the largest and minority shareholders. Iyad and his team are advising many clients in jordan on wheeling and net metering projects for generation and use of renewable energy by the electricity consumers directly. Currently the team is representing the developer of a 60 mw wheeling project, and three lenders including ebrd on a 100 million usd financing for a real estate/tourism project in jordan. Iyad was also a board member of edama association, a private sector lead association that seeks innovative solutions for energy and water independence, and their positive reflect on the environment as our amman office is a founding member of edama. Iyad was educated at boston college where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in general management. He then attended New York Law School where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree (Cum Laude) and is licensed to practice in New York and Jordan.
