Edijs Poga

Work Department

Edijs has more than ten years of experience specialising in Latvian and EU competition law, merger control, state aid and EU funding and general EU law, as well as many other disciplines of business law.  He regularly handles high-profile Latvian and EU competition law cases before the Competition Council of Latvia and Latvian courts, some of them being the largest competition law infringement, investigation and litigation cases, as well as merger control cases in Latvia.  Edijs also represents clients before the European Commission and the European Courts.

As a legal expert, Edijs assists many top-tier local and international clients and deals with multiple high-profile matters in the fields of private international law, human rights law and commercial dispute resolution.  He is also involved in complex multimillion M&As, banking and finance and real estate transactions, as well as in construction and engineering projects.

Edijs is a member of the Latvian Bar Association and a founding member of the Latvian Law Institute.  Since 2011 he has been holding the office of Director of the Institute.  Edijs has also acted as a special trustee of the Council of the Latvian Bar Association in drafting the rules on activities and occupations incompatible with the status and professional ethics of Latvian advocates (2011), as well as the rules on professional symbols of Latvian advocates (2013). Edijs is a Fellow at the European Law Institute, based in Vienna, Austria.

Edijs graduated from the Pallas LL.M. European Business Law programme with merit in 2008.  Prior to that Edijs obtained a bachelor’s degree in international, comparative and EU law from the former Concordia International University Estonia in Tallinn, Estonia.  For his outstanding academic performance, Edijs has received a number of scholarships and several academic awards such as the H.R.H. Princess Margriet of The Netherlands Prize and the Lord Slynn of Hadley Award.  His academic experience includes successful participation in New York’s regional round of the prestigious 2005 European Law Moot Court Competition held at New York University’s School of Law.  In 2013 Edijs completed his EU competition law studies with merit at King’s College London and obtained a prestigious Postgraduate Diploma in EU Competition Law.
