Career
Sibil Melliger is a partner at Eversheds Sutherland and a member of the Financial Services team. She is also a member of Eversheds Sutherland Switzerland’s Startup Desk and the Global DLT Practice Group.
Sibil has extensive experience in banking, DLT/blockchain, financial services, financial markets infrastructure as well as anti-money laundering law and regularly advises clients in these areas. In addition, she has conducted numerous internal investigations related to cross-border, regulatory issues and white-collar crimes.
Sibil provides legal and regulatory advice to banks and other financial service providers. As an expert in DLT/blockchain as well as general regulatory and corporate legal matters, she further advises founders of blockchain companies and other FinTech companies in all legal matters and supports them in setting up their legal and compliance framework as well as their tokenization offerings.
Besides her sound knowledge particularly in banking, FinTech/DLT/blockchain as well as AML and other compliance topics, her in-house working experience as Head of Legal & Compliance at multiple banks and blockchain companies and her deep understanding and involvement in FINMA licensing processes are an invaluable asset. Of particular note is Sibil’s former role as General Counsel in one of Switzerland’s first crypto banks, and her decisive contribution to the crypto bank successfully receiving a banking license.

She is a member of the Women in Web3 Switzerland (WiW3CH) and the Head of Compliance of the Swiss Finance + Technology Association (SFTA). She is a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Lucerne (HSLU) and a guest lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Business Zurich (HWZ).
Education
Sibil completed her law studies at the University of Zurich in 2005 and post-graduate studies at UCLA, Los Angeles (LL.M., 2012). She was admitted to the bar of the Canton of Zurich in 2008.
