John specialises in construction and engineering law and advises on all forms of procurement and dispute resolution across a number of sectors (domestic and international). He is experienced in all standard forms including FIDIC, NEC, ICC (ICE), MF/1, JCT and IChemE as well as bespoke forms, frameworks, alliancing agreements, warranties, appointments and securities. John also advises on dispute avoidance and resolution and is experienced in litigation, arbitration, adjudication, expert determination, mediation and negotiation. Recent experience includes: Drafting and negotiating a suite of EPC and O&M contracts (plus ancillary documentation) for the construction of the Navitus Bay offshore wind farm representing a £3.5bn investment; Drafting and negotiating EPC and O&M contracts for a series of large scale solar projects; Acting for a University in a series of adjudications relating the construction of a new academic facility; Acting for Network Rail in relation to a number of issues arising out of the renovation of Birmingham New Street train station. Acting for Greater Gabbard Offshore wind farm in the defence of £multimillion claims from the turbine supplier and the foundation supplier. Acting for Severn Trent in relation to the extraction of a JV partner from its PFI agreement with MoD for the provision of sewerage services; Acting for RWE Npower in relation to the conversion of a coal fired power station into a CHP Biomass plant; Advising National Grid in relation to the consequences of the termination of its SW Electricity Substation Alliance; and John has advised Taylor Wimpey (and other house builders) for many years in the resolution of disputes. John has undertaken secondments at National Grid, Greater Gabbard Offshore Winds Limited (SSE and RWE) and Navitus Bay Development Limited (EDF and Eneco).
