Career

Matt Block is a partner in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Matt focuses his practice on the formation, structuring and management of a variety of private equity funds, hedge funds, real estate funds, credit funds, distressed funds, co-investment funds and seed capital funds. Matt advises clients in connection with the entire fundraise lifecycle, including end of term GP-led portfolio company restructurings. He has also advised leading investment firms in connection with investment management M&A transactions, including minority investments, seed capital transactions, and strategic partnership arrangements. Matt also represents institutional limited partners and family offices with respect to their investments in the alternative investment space.

Matt has formed funds ranging in size from under $100 million to over $5 billion.

In addition to advising on fund formation, compliance and operations, Matt also advises on secondary and co-investment transactions, seeding arrangements, placement agent arrangements and management company compensation and governance structuring.

Matt has provided pro bono representation with the City Bar Justice Center's Immigrant Women and Children Project which assists immigrant survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking and violate crimes in connection with their immigration matters.
