Career

A member of Hunton Andrews Kurth’s corporate and securities litigation team, John’s practice focuses on shareholder litigation and corporate governance.

For more than a decade, he has represented public and private companies, private equity firms, investment banks and company executives in federal and state courts across the country. John has defended shareholder lawsuits challenging mergers and acquisitions, securities class actions, and SEC enforcement proceedings. He has also assisted boards of directors and special committees responding to shareholder derivative demands and litigated post-closing disputes between buyers and sellers.

In addition, John advises clients on state government ethics issues, including the Virginia Campaign Finance Reform Act of 2006, Virginia’s Conflict of Interests Acts and lobbying laws.

He has dedicated a portion of his time to pro bono within the local community and has secured several successful representations. Most recently, John successfully led a federal fair housing lawsuit on behalf of a retired minister and his wife who were threatened with eviction from their senior living community for hosting a Bible study in the community’s common room. In another matter, John was part of a team that overturned a wrongful murder conviction for a habeas corpus petitioner in Virginia.
