Career
Renê G. S. Medrado counsels multinational corporations, domestic companies and trade associations on economic law matters, with a focus on international trade and competition.
Acting since 1997 in international trade disputes, he represents several companies in anti-dumping, countervailing measures and safeguards investigations in Brazil and abroad. Renê has extensive experience in multi-jurisdictional investigations and public interest proceedings, and regularly represents clients before the Brazilian authorities with jurisdiction over financial and trade matters (Industry and Trade, Treasury, Foreign Relations, Foreign Trade). He also advises companies on compliance with governmental measures instituted under the WTO rules, having also acted as panelist before the WTO dispute settlement body. Renê also works on topics related to the intersection between sustainability and international trade.
Renê has also amassed extensive experience in competition law matters, having counseled and represented companies in high-stakes merger reviews before Brazilian competition regulator (CADE) and in cartel investigations, besides advising clients on competition aspects of their activities. He also helps companies devise the strategies for attaining successful merger clearances at CADE.
Renê is a seasoned practitioner in arbitration and court litigation revolving around economic law matters, as well as in cartel damage claims and other competition disputes. He has served as an expert witness before the US courts.
Renê is consistently ranked in Chambers, Who’s Who Legal, Legal500, Análise Advocacia, Best Lawyers, among other leading ranking publications. In addition, he has a seat on the board of several professional trade associations and organizations. Presently, he is chair of IBRAC; a member of FIESP’s Higher Foreign Trade Board; co-chair of IBA’s International Trade Law Section; chair of Columbia Alumni Association Brazil; and head of the firm’s DE&I committee.
