Career
Martin Hamer is a Partner in the Environmental Group in Germany. He focuses on environmental matters including soil and groundwater contamination, environmental permits, nature protection, waste management, mining and climate protection. Martin represents clients in complex permit procedures vis-à-vis public authorities, environmental liability litigation and public law contract negotiations. In addition, he advises on environmental and other regulatory matters in corporate and real estate transactions. Amongst his clients are manufacturers, real estate companies, private equity funds, energy suppliers and business associations.
Martin also specialises in public planning and building law matters. He represents investors, project developers and housing companies in planning and building permit procedures vis-à-vis municipalities and authorities. He regularly lectures on public planning and building law at the EBS University for Economics and Law in Wiesbaden.
Martin has been recognized in the 2019 edition of Best Lawyers in Germany in the category Environmental Law. He has published numerous articles on environmental and planning matters. For example, he recently published an article on a mining and environmental law topic in the Fall 2019 edition of the American Bar Association’s online journal Natural Resources & Environment. Furthermore, Martin is co-author of the legal commentary on the German Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Act in the publication Berliner Kommentar zum Energierecht.
Prior to joining the firm, Martin worked as a partner at the UK law firm Olswang in Berlin and spent more than ten years with the environmental, planning and regulatory group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
