Career
Melissa practises law in the following areas: corporate and commercial, civil and commercial litigation, financial services law. She has experience in a broad range of corporate-related matters (contentious and non-contentious) including advising both local and international clients on the establishment of and structuring of corporate vehicles in Mauritius, fund structuring, insolvency, regulatory issues and insurance matters.
Melissa´s practice extends to the drafting of contracts and commercial documentation, including all documentation relating to corporate structuring, capital raising deals, securities offering, share pledging, aircraft leasing and financing. She has considerable experience in advisory matters in the corporate field. She also provides assistance in all civil matters, including corporate and tax, securitization, land law, labour/industrial, contract, tort, trust, and recovery of debt. She has also provided advice and assistance to the Boards of companies with regards to governance issues and best practice.
Prior to joining Appleby in December 2016, Melissa was a practising barrister in general private practice with experience in all areas of Mauritian law, including civil, criminal, commercial, corporate, matrimonial, employment, insurance and intellectual property matters.

Melissa is fluent in French and English.

Melissa is a member of the Mauritius Bar Association as well as a member of STEP, and an Associate of the ICSA.
Education
Melissa qualified as a solicitor in England in 2000 but she did not practise as a solicitor as she started to work in the financial services industry.
