Career
Esmond is Counsel in the Private Client & Trusts team. Esmond’s practice focuses on advising international high-net worth individuals and families on their wealth planning needs and in assisting trustees and private banks on all aspects of trusts including creation, restructuring, administration and succession planning. He also specialises in Wills & Probate and advises on estate planning matters.
Esmond also has experience in advising on the creation of Cayman Islands Foundation Companies which were introduced into the jurisdiction in October 2017. To date he has advised clients on the incorporation of Foundation Companies as both succession planning vehicles and as issuing vehicles in initial coin offerings.
Esmond complements his non-contentious work with contentious international trust and private client applications in the Cayman Court.
In his previous roles, Esmond advised on a wide range of trust and private client matters, the establishment of trusts, preparation of wills and administration of estates, managing the investment of trust funds, as well as handling property transactions for estates. Prior to joining Appleby, Esmond was an Associate with Collas Crill in Guernsey, where he practiced in the Fiduciary department and gained valuable offshore trusts experience.

Education
He was admitted as an English Solicitor in 2013 in England and Wales, called to the Cayman Islands Bar in 2017 and admitted as a Solicitor of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, BVI Circuit in 2020.

Esmond is speaking at the STEP Cayman Conference this year on a panel discussion entitled: “What’s new in the UK?”
He also spoke at the Transcontinental Trust Conference in Geneva in October 2021 on a panel session which was entitled “What the crypto?” which discussed difficulties faced by trustees when faced with alternative investments including digital assets and ESG investments.
