Career

Juliette de Hutton heads Bowmans’ South African Restructuring Practice.

She has extensive experience in court proceedings related to insolvency and regularly acts for liquidators dealing with the winding-up process and the litigation that flows from insolvency enquiries.

She is well versed in both the litigious and commercial aspects of business rescue proceedings, creditors’ compromises under the Companies Act, and distressed debt, debt restructuring and enforcing security.

She is a member of the South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association (SARIPA) and the Turnaround Management Association of South Africa (TMA – SA).

Juliette has BA, LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Cape Town and has completed an Advanced Short Course in Business Rescue Practice through the University of South Africa. She is also a Solicitor admitted in the High Court of England and Wales.

Juliette de Hutton is a Partner in Bowmans' Cape Town office’s Dispute Resolution Department.

Juliette has been involved in all aspects of legal work in the insolvency sphere since July 2003 and has experience in a wide range of insolvency related court proceedings, including liquidation and sequestration applications, applications for the perfection of securities, applications brought on behalf of liquidators for the extension of their powers as well as leave to borrow funds and to sell assets.

She has advised clients regarding distressed debt as well as debt restructuring. She also advises in relation to all aspects of business rescue and compromises with creditors in terms of the Companies Act.

She is a member of SARIPA (South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association) and of TMA – SA (Turnaround Management Association of South Africa).
