Career

Pedro Garcia is a recognized practitioner in the areas of contracts and transactional law, financings, regulatory and antitrust, with particular experience in the Mining and Infrastructure sectors.  Pedro is the Firm’s coordinator of the Mining Practice.  He brings extensive knowledge to client projects, providing expert counsel on local and cross-border transactions, negotiation and drafting of commercial agreements, M&As, financing and capital raising transactions (offtakes, royalties and streamings), regulatory, real estate and environmental issues for mining ventures. Mr. Garcia was a member of the Board of Directors of the World Initiative of Mining Lawyers – WIOML for 4 years.

Mining clients frequently retain Mr. Garcia to advise them on a variety of issues specific to the industry, including on the structuring of new investments in mining projects, purchase and sale transactions for exploration and exploitation tenements, due diligences, title opinions and capital raising transactions.  Clients also rely upon his counsel in drafting option and lease agreements, farm-in/farm-outs, financings, streaming and royalty contracts. Mr. Garcia also advises clients on ore purchase and sale agreements, environmental issues, surface rights arrangements and service agreements, among others.

From an antitrust perspective, Mr. Garcia’s experience includes handling antitrust proceedings across multiple industries, including mining, oil & gas and.  He is well versed in the analysis of potentially anti-competitive agreements and submission for approval of proposed mergers and acquisitions before the Administrative Council of Economic Defense (CADE).

Mr. Garcia brings a unique global perspective to clients gained from his experience working and studying abroad.  He spent two years in Europe working as a foreign attorney with Simmons & Simmons in their London and Lisbon offices, where he focused his practice on corporate law, capital markets and antitrust law. During this time Mr. Garcia also took post-graduate courses at the University of Lisbon and University of London.  Fluent in Spanish, Mr. Garcia is deeply involved with the Latin Desk of Veirano Advogados.
