Career

Carlos Castro is a consultant at Veirano Advogados and has significant experience representing international and Brazilian clients in the mining industries.  He is recognized for his expertise and knowledge in handling regulatory, contractual and corporate matters for leading companies based in the United States, Canada, Australia, Norway and Brazil.  Mr. Castro has advised companies such as Norsk Hydro, Vale and Xstrata and a large number of junior mining companies. His mining clients gain the benefit of his considerable corporate experience enabling him to provide a unique perspective in handling issues that natural resource companies face regularly.

Instrumental in helping many foreign companies establish operations in Brazil, Mr. Castro has assisted them in acquiring and operating mining tenements throughout the Brazilian territory.  He represents mining clients in matters related to mergers and acquisitions, project finance and joint ventures. Among other projects, Mr. Castro has represented a Norwegian aluminum company in a US$4.9 Billion deal for the acquisition of the entire aluminum business of the largest Brazilian mining company, which included bauxite mining sites, exploration rights and priority rights, a 244 km bauxite pipeline, port occupation agreements, the largest alumina refinery in Latin America and an aluminum refinery.

Early career experience for Mr. Castro includes time working as an international associate for a major international law firm based in the United States where he was first involved in establishing the Brazilian mining practice at Veirano. He has been published on the topic of mineral resources and is often requested as an expert presenter to industry groups.
