Career

Álvaro Vives focuses on Antitrust, Arbitration and Litigation.

In antitrust matters, he has represented clients in governmental investigations and judicial proceedings related to cartels, abuse of dominance, merger control and regulatory recommendations.  He has also provided preventive advice regarding contracts and commercial policies, and has taught executives and employees about antitrust issues. He also has experience in civil, commercial, and constitutional litigation.

Since 2014 he is a Civil Law professor at the School of Law of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

He worked as an associate at Claro & Cía. between 2011 and 2013.  Later, from 2013 to 2016, he clerked at the Chilean Competition Tribunal, participating in contentious and non-contentious proceedings involving both regulated and non-regulated industries.  Furthermore, between 2017 and 2018 he worked as a visiting attorney in the litigation department at Shearman & Sterling.  He rejoined Claro y Cía. in 2018 and became partner in 2022.

He is admitted to practice in Chile since 2012 and in the State of New York, USA, since 2018.
