Career
Matthew A. Kraus’s practice focuses on complex commercial and financial products litigation. He represents insurers, auditors, banks, and individuals in civil and criminal matters in state and federal court. His experience also includes defending individuals and companies in investigations by Congress, various U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, multiple divisions of the Department of Justice, and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Matthew has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in the 2014-2016 editions of New York Metro Super Lawyers in the areas of Antitrust Litigation and Business Litigation.
Matthew’s recent representation includes participating in the firm’s representation of MBIA Inc., the world’s largest monoline insurer, in defense of four separate state and federal actions brought by 19 of the world’s largest financial institutions, bondholders, and a putative nationwide class represented by several hedge funds – all arising from MBIA’s $5 billion corporate restructuring in 2009.
Matthew also has experience representing companies in antitrust litigation. He has represented magazine wholesalers Source Interlink Distribution, L.L.C. and Source Interlink Companies, Inc. (“Source”) in their successful litigation against some of the nation’s largest magazine publishers and distributors, alleging that the defendants conspired to boycott Source in an attempt to maintain control over the distribution of magazines to retailers throughout the United States. Matthew continues to represent magazine wholesaler Anderson News, L.L.C. in a similar action pending against the same defendants.
Prior to joining Kasowitz, Matthew was an associate in the Antitrust & Litigation group in the Washington DC office of King & Spalding LLP.
