Career
Mario is a responsible and persistent International Trade practice leader and expert who believes in the benefits and opportunities of socially responsible global trade.
When clients seek out Mario’s expertise on international trade and customs matters, they not only find a lawyer, but a business partner, someone who is ready to go the extra mile to ensure his clients achieve their goals. He has been passionate about the law since starting law school, and he pours that passion into every project.
In his years of practice, he has specialized in the energy (mainly renewable energy), mining, automotive, electronics, aerospace, food and beverage, and consumer goods sectors. Clients and peers recognize him as a leading lawyer who offers sophisticated and innovative solutions in these areas. As an example, he developed the first solar panel importation strategy within the preferential programs framework.
Mario actively participates in Pro Bono projects through the Firm, helping start-up clients, private clients and NGO’s establish their businesses and create a safe operation and legal environment. Likewise, he is committed to the progress and improvement of the Firm’s younger lawyers who will become the future of the Firm.
He is recognized as an expert and leading lawyer by renowned international publications, such as Chambers Latin American Guide and Chambers Global Guide, in the practice of International Trade/WTO. He is also considered an expert lawyer in the same practice by Latin Lawyer and The Legal 500 Latin American Guide.

(Next Generation Partners)As one of the best recognised Mexican full-service firms, Galicia Abogados S.C. is a natural destination for a host of foreign and multinational clients needing assistance navigating the various regulations and trade agreements relevant to trade matters involving Mexican law. One area of notable activity, recently, has been acting for clients in audits by the Mexican tax authorities with respect to VAT assessments. Disputes resulting from international trade are an undoubted strength of the team, although it also has a robust advisory offering and cross-border M&A support capability. Practice co-head Mario Valencia has recently helped bolster the firm’s offering on nearshoring matters, paying frequent visits to the firm’s Monterrey office to facilitate this. Fellow co-lead Daniel Amézquita is a litigator well versed in administrative and constitutional challenges to the stances taken by government agencies and entities. Senior associate Andrés Muñiz Cordova is a mainstay for counsel on import and export regulations, with Fernando Rodríguez and Sheidel Francioli further associate-level contacts to note.
