Lauded for its members’ ability to find practical solutions to complex problems’, the group at Galicia Abogados S.C. is a strong choice for banking and finance matters. Working from offices in Mexico City and Monterrey, areas of expertise for the national team include advising international and local lenders and borrowers alike on the structuring, negotiation, documentation and execution of financing transactions. The practice group has additional strength with respect to regulatory, compliance and risk management mandates for financial institutions. Banks, public entities, brokerage firms, pension funds and insurance companies routinely feature on the practice’s client roster. Two Mexico City-based partners share leadership of the department: Arturo Perdomo handles fintech matters, financial transactions and regulatory work; Guillermo Pérez Santiago majors on capital markets’ finance and ESG. Monterrey-based Rosemarie McLaren is praised for her ‘practical and timely advice’ and takes care of local and cross-border, bilateral and syndicated loans, as well as commercial real estate and general corporate financing mandates. Rodrigo Rivera deals with corporate financing, real estate financing, debt financing and restructuring; while senior associate Lili Abascal specialises in public, local and international financing matters. Former practice co-head Humberto Pérez Rocha, a 30-year veteran of the firm who advised on a broad range of financing transactions, departed in September 2024.

Mexico > TMT

Four core subgroups make up the offering from Galicia Abogados S.C.  to its clients across the TMT space. Antitrust, compliance and telecoms matters are all overseen by Carlos Chávez, a trusted counsel to significant telecoms operators in Mexico who has considerable experience dealing with both the Mexican competition authority (COFECE) and the telecoms regulator (IFT). Ricardo García is the main contact to note for M&A in the sector, along with technology and e-commerce; he continues to build experience in technology matters and coordinates all requests regarding technology and media for the firm. On the fintech front, Arturo Perdomo is the most senior and experienced name, while former Meta associate general counsel Xavier Careaga, a November 2023 counsel hire, is the key figure as regards internet law and related matters for tech clients.
