Career

José’s practice centers around the belief that the Firm can only be an ally to clients when we truly understand their business needs and strategies.

He co-heads the M&A and Private Equity groups at the Firm. His professional practice focuses on M&A, financings and real estate projects. He has acted as a legal advisor to institutional investors as well as local and international corporations in complex acquisitions. He also advises financial institutions on their lending activities in Mexico.

He is an active officer in the International Bar Association’s Latin American Regional Forum. He is recognized as an expert and leading lawyer by renowned international publications, such as Chambers Latin American Guide and Chambers Global Guide, in the Corporate/M&A practice. He is also in The Legal 500 Latin American Guide’s “Hall of Fame” for the same practice. IFLR1000 and Latin Lawyer recognize him as one of the leading M&A practitioners in Mexico. Leaders League recognizes him as a leader in the Banking and Finance practice.

He has international experience working as a foreign associate at Cleary Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, in the Washington, D.C. and New York offices.

José is Co-Managing Partner of the Firm and member of the Executive and Compensation Committees.

Education

José has a Law Degree from Escuela Libre de Derecho (Mexico City) as well as a postgraduate degree in Legal Aspects of Investment. He has a Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M.) and a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from Georgetown University. He remains academically active as a visiting professor for Universidad Panamericana.

Leadership of the practice is shared between José Visoso and Ignacio Pesqueira. Visoso focuses his practice on M&A, financings and real estate projects and also co-leads the firm’s private equity group; Pesqueira also majors on M&A, along with private equity, real estate and general corporate matters. Christian Lippert specialises in M&A transactions, antitrust and compliance mandates; Héctor Kuri has a particular focus on M&A transactions involving the mining segment; and Ricardo García takes care of TMT, technology and e-commerce transactions. Raised to the partnership in early 2024,  Florent Patoret ‘s corporate and transactional practice has a strong orientation towards the mining sector.
