Position

Natalia Escobar is a partner in Posse Herrera Ruiz since 2022,  Financial Law & Capital Markets department. She has over 15 years of experience in local and international financial regulation matters, and in lending and capital market transactions.

Career

Natalia advises local and foreign financial institutions and securities issuers in regulatory matters related to banking, asset management, pension, insurance, securities, and fintech. She also represents regulated and non-regulated entities on a broad range of matters before the Colombian Financial Superintendency and other authorities. Her practice includes advising innovative ventures and projects related to the financial system, with high social impact or focused on sustainability.

Before joining PHR, Natalia worked at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel, Switzerland. At the BIS, she supported regulators and supervisors of Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDE) in implementing the insurance core principles as part of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors’ (IAIS) Secretariat. She also coordinated the launch of the IAIS’ global Fintech and Financial Inclusion Forums.

Natalia served in the Colombian Financial Superintendency as Legal Counsel to the Deputy Superintendent for Institutional Supervision and Deputy Superintendent for Insurance. Acting in the latter capacity, she directed the risk-based supervision of the Colombian insurance industry. She also oversaw the regulatory approvals for various new (re)insurers, new insurance products and business lines, and several mergers and acquisitions involving local and foreign (re)insurers and brokers. She also represented this entity in international fora such as the IAIS, ASSAL (Latin American Association of Insurance Supervisors), and the OECD.

Natalia began her career as an Associate in the Financial Law and Capital Markets department at PHR, where she worked for more than six years. Her practice focused on regulatory matters and advising financial institutions and corporations in connection with a variety of lending and capital markets transactions.
