Career

Daniel is the founder of Priestleys, having established the firm in 2007. Daniel is particularly well known for his expertise in real estate and has established a reputation for excellence by leveraging his experience from an unusually broad practice, which he combines with diligence, responsiveness, and an eye for the practical. Daniel qualified as an English Solicitor at the City of London firm, Simmons & Simmons in 1995 specialising in Real Estate, and also worked at Denton Wilde Sapte specialising in Real Estate and Projects before moving to the Cayman Islands in 1999 when he joined the Business Law Group at Ogier.  During his time at Ogier, Daniel was promoted to Counsel and led the local practice team.  Daniel is particularly well known for expertise in commercial property and has advised various parties involved in a number of major infrastructure projects in the Cayman Islands, such as the redevelopment of the George Town Port, the redevelopment of a number of strata plans, the hospital project in East End, the establishment of enterprise zones and the development and letting of a number of retail and office developments.  Daniel is recommended in the Legal 500 (Caribbean Edition) 2015 as a “commercial property expert”.  Upon joining Ogier, Daniel expanded his practice to include all areas associated with meeting the legal needs of local businesses, including: formation and constitution of business entities, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, business licensing and regulation, immigration, employment relations, general commercial work such as franchise agreements, intellectual property, financing, banking and secured lending.  After 2001, Daniel maintained his local practice but also devoted considerable time to investment funds work.  Daniel advises in connection with the establishment, maintenance, regulation and dissolution of investment funds structured as corporations, unit trusts and partnerships, as well as private equity funds and offshore vehicles for onshore businesses, particularly as lead counsel but also in co-operation with onshore counsel in a number of other jurisdictions, especially the United States.  Daniel has advised in connection with listings on the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange and the Irish Stock Exchange.  Daniel also regularly advises on shipping, private client and wealth management matters.  In 2007, Daniel established Priestleys.  Daniel is a Notary Public in and for the Cayman Islands, a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association and a director of PA Corporate Services Limited.
