Career

Ignacio Grangel heads up the Public Law & Regulated Sectors department at CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo. As a State Attorney, he boasts a lengthy track record in all areas related to public authorities and regulated sectors, most notably energy.

A particular highlight of his work in the regulatory field was his involvement in drafting the recent Spanish energy regulation and its application in the corporate sector and his stint as the Chief of Staff between 2012 and 2015 for successive Secretaries of State for Energy. He was Director of Legal Services and Vice secretary General at Red Eléctrica de España (REE), as well as participating in the sale and purchase of energy-related assets and the submission of bids in international tender processes.

Moreover, Ignacio has provided counsel before all types of courts and in investment arbitration proceedings, with his work as a State Attorney for Spain’s High Court in relation to regulated sectors, energy, telecommunications and procurement of particular note. 

He is currently an Independent Board Member of Enagás and Member of the Committee of Experts on Energy Transition, a group created by way of a Council of Ministers resolution on 7 July 2017. Moreover, he is also a former Chairman of the Iberian Electricity Market Operator.
