Partner and head of the Bankruptcy and Restructuring area, cohead of Projects and International Arbitration areas. She is a dual-qualified lawyer in New York and Peru.

Career

Michelle is a dual-qualified lawyer in New York and Peru. She specializes in corporate restructuring and cross-border insolvencies, including in and out-of-court restructurings, corporate and bankruptcy liquidations, distressed M&A, bankruptcy takeovers, international projects and arbitrations.

Michelle’s national and international experience allows her to provide expert advice in bankruptcy and corporate restructuring matters, in several M&A transactions and investment projects. She works jointly with international law firms in Chapter 11 and international arbitration cases.

Michelle participates in the development of new bankruptcy legislation. She lectures in diverse webinars regarding insolvency matters and distressed M&A and has monthly publications in main Peruvian newspaper, “El Comercio”.

She worked as permanent associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York (2001-2003). She has acted as Vice Chair (2008-2010) and Co-Chair (2010-2012) of the IBA´s committee on reorganization & workouts.

The group is led by Luis Alberto Linan, who is experienced in representing telecoms and mining companies in civil and constitutional proceedings; Javier Ferrero, who handles complex investment arbitration cases; and Michelle Barclay, who focuses on advising companies in relation to infrastructure and PPP projects.
