Jane focuses on the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields, with an extensive EPO opposition practice and parallel prosecution practice. Jane has over 25 years of experience and is ranked at the top of her field by the independent guides to the legal profession. She is one of only 116 individuals recommended from across Europe by the IAM Patent 1000 Directory 2024 for representatives at the European Patent Office (EPO) and she is recognised in the WIPR Global Leaders 2024 guide which profiles “best-in-class IP practitioners across the length and breadth of the global IP community”. Jane also is listed as a “recommended individual” in the Juve 2024 guide and is mentioned as a “key lawyer” in the CMS Tier 1 ranked team in the Legal 500 2023 Directory.
Jane’s practice focuses on written and oral representation before the European Patent Office (EPO) in examination and opposition proceedings at first instance and at appeal. Through careful analysis, creative thinking and skilful advocacy, Jane has an excellent track record in offensive and defensive oppositions and in finding solutions for taking EP patent applications to grant where the examiner’s view has become entrenched. She has been praised for her meticulous, evidence-based, and concise approach.
Jane has particular expertise in peptide and protein-based technologies including fusion proteins and therapeutic and diagnostic antibodies and antibody conjugates, including ADCs and AOCs; cell therapies including CAR-T cells and viral vectors; antisense oligonucleotides and siRNA; diagnostic assays; PCR and amplification reactions; small molecule pharma; and biomarkers. Jane also has a strong practice in the formulations space, including pharmaceutical formulations, as well as those in the food & drink and cosmetics areas.
Jane sits on the UK CIPA life sciences committee and, for many years, she was an examiner for the UK patent attorney finals level qualifying exams.
