Career

Sarah was admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 2008 and joined the Kaplan & Stratton partnership in 2015. Her work encompasses advising clients on: business establishment in Kenya; M&A and joint ventures; legal due diligence and forensics; property development and management; and advising on employment matters especially transfer of employees, redundancies and employee leasing.

She has published several articles including: Kenya - The Evolution of Redundancy Laws in the International Employment Newsletter (Taylor Vinters); At Crossroads: Shareholder value, stakeholder value and enlightened shareholder value. Which road should the United Kingdom take? in the International Company and Commercial Law Review (Sweet & Maxwell UK); and Non-Executive Directors in UK listed companies: Are they effective? In the International Company and Commercial Law Review (Sweet & Maxwell UK).

Some of the notable transactions Sarah has been involved in include: advising Prudential plc on its acquisition of Shield Assurance Limited becoming the only 100% foreign owned insurer in Kenya; advising Norfund, FMO and AfricInvest on a multimillion shilling exit from Family Bank; advising NSE listed TPS Eastern Africa, Porparco, NorFund and the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) on the USD 40 million acquisition of Mövenpick Royal Palms Hotel – Dar-es-Salaam by Serena Group which was made through a Cayman Island SPV; and advising Puma Energy LLC on the proposed acquisition of KenolKobil Limited and conducting an extensive due diligence on the target.
