Position

Andrew Jones is the managing partner, and heads the Dispute Resolution and Construction practice, of Dentons’ Doha office. He has over 29 years of experience in construction, projects and engineering law having acted for clients in all sectors of the construction and engineering industry. He has experience in acting for a wide range of clients in the Middle East, Europe, Far East and the CIS. He has advised extensively on major infrastructure projects, power plant, process plant and landmark hotel office and retail developments.

Andrew’s practice also involves all forms of dispute resolution varying from national and international arbitration and litigation in the Technology and Construction Court to statutory/contractual adjudication, ADR (including mediation and expert determination).

He has recently been involved in cases which included issues arising from delay to projects, loss and expense, termination issues, final account disputes, professional negligence and defects.

Andrew is ranked in Chambers and is regularly published in various journals and lectures widely on issues related to International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution.

Career

  • Doha Metro: Acting for a Design and Build Contractor of a Doha Metro line on an ICC proceedings seated in Qatar relating to a major dispute concerning delays and considerable project cost overruns.
  • Qatar Rail Network: Advising Qatar Railways on the development of Qatar’s new integrated railway network. We additionally advised on the creation of a new State Railway Law in Qatar. We assisted Qatar Railways on a range of matters as one of their panel law firms until we resigned our place in December 2015.
  • Deutsche Bahn: Advising on a joint venture with the State of Qatar to develop a US$25 billion underground train network and high-speed rail link and freight rail project that will provide Doha with a state-of-the-art metro public transport system and will also link Doha to the region’s other capital cities through high-speed passenger and freight services.
  • Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SCDL): As one of their panel law firms, we are advising SCDL on an ongoing basis on a range of procurement and Qatari law issues relating to stadia and other infrastructure for competition venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
  • International Airport Expansion Project: Advising on procurement strategies and drafting building and engineering contracts for the new runway and external baggage handling system, and other project documentation, including the services contract with the insurance broker. We also assisted during the tender clarification process and gave general legal support.
