Position

Faris Shehabi is a senior associate specialising in commercial dispute resolution in Dentons’ Dubai office. He has over 15 years’ experience working on a wide range of complex international trade and commercial disputes including experience before tribunals in ad hoc proceedings and under regional and international arbitration rules including ICC, UNCITRAL, LCIA, DIAC, SIAC, HKIAC, AIAC and LMAA, as well as before the courts of numerous jurisdictions (UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, DIFC and ADGM). His experience is across a range of different sectors including energy and infrastructure, shipping and commodities, banking and finance, and shareholder disputes. He was previously in charge of legal services at a leading international arbitral institution in Asia, is regularly invited to speak at regional and international events and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

  • Confidential client: Acting for a state-owned solar energy company in an US$80 million dispute under the rules of the ICC.
  • Confidential client: Acting for a large contractor against one of the largest developers in the region in numerous arbitration proceedings under the rules of the DIAC, together with associated proceedings before the Dubai courts.
  • Confidential client: Acting for a PRC state-owned oil and gas company on a multi-phase offshore oil and gas project in Africa.
  • Confidential client: Acting for the successful claimant in a US$70 million dispute against a Fortune 500 company in an English High Court case dealing with issues of bribery and torture (Shagang Shipping Co Ltd (in liquidation) v.   • Confidential client: Representing the largest private steel mill in China in numerous arbitration and litigation proceedings, including securing the setting aside of an award on jurisdiction before the English High Court in a case worth almost US$70 million (Jiangsu Shagang Group Co Ltd v. Loki Owning Company Ltd [2018] EWHC 330 (Comm)).
