Career

Derek Pontin has experience in personal and corporate insolvency, security enforcement and foreclosure, and credit collection. He advises on all areas of bankruptcy and insolvency, and works on matters relating to local, national and cross-border business restructuring and reorganization, receiverships, security and debt enforcement, creditors’ rights, and debtor protections. His practice also focuses on oil and gas royalty litigation.

Representing secured and unsecured creditors, Derek also acts for debtors and bankrupts, receivers/trustees in various areas of bankruptcy and receiverships, banks, financial/credit institutions, corporations of all sizes, accounting and other professional firms, and individuals. He has appeared before the Court of Queen’s Bench, the Provincial Court of Alberta, Alberta Court of Appeal and the Federal Court (Trial Division).

Derek was a summer and articling student at Dentons Canada LLP and is an active member of several firm committees.
