Career

Ish is a Partner in our Real Estate team. He helps businesses with their commercial property deals, particularly sales, purchases and leases.

Ish joined Kensington Swan in 1988 and has been practising law for over 30 years. He has specialised in commercial leasing since the 1980s and is recognised nationally as a leading expert in this field. His extensive leasing work including acting for a range of property trusts, shopping centre owners, and national and multinational tenants.

Ish specialises in commercial leasing, and buying and selling office buildings. He advises a wide range of clients, including property investors, shopping centre owners, and commercial tenants, as well as intermediaries such as international property consultancies. He also advises government agencies and public entities.

One of Ish’s specialist practice areas is development agreements for the construction or redevelopment, and leasing, of CBD buildings. He has extensive experience in dealing with seismic and earthquake-related issues affecting commercial property.

Ish has a deep understanding of the commercial property market, and can help steer you through the process of negotiating leases or buying and selling commercial property. He can help you understand your rights and obligations under existing leases. He can also advise you on what you are entitled to if a building is damaged and what your obligations are when a lease ends – and he can help you resolve any disputes that may arise.

Ish has dealt extensively with all aspects of office, retail and industrial tenancies for major property clients such as Accident Compensation Corporation, AMP Capital, AMP Wholesale Office Fund, CentrePort, Coastlands Shoppingtown, Fujitsu, Hawke’s Bay Airport, IBM, Kiwi Income Property Trust, KPMG, Land Information New Zealand, PSPIB/CPPIB, the Ministry of Justice, and Public Trust.
