Career

Nicky leads the firm's Environment and Planning team.

She has extensive experience advising national and local government agencies carrying out large infrastructure projects, such as roads, reservoirs, bridges, ferry terminals, wharves, hydro-electric power schemes, electricity transmission lines, wastewater treatment plants and landfills.

She works closely with planners, project managers, technical experts, and in-house counsel to develop consenting strategies, advise on their implementation, and prepare application documents. She is a skilled advocate, and represents clients in council hearings, boards of inquiry, the Environment Court, mediations, and the High Court.

Nicky also advises businesses and government on the development and interpretation of district and regional planning documents which regulate their activities. This includes the making of submissions, and representation in Environment Court appeals.

Nicky has a particular interest in heritage regulation, and advises New Zealand’s heritage regulator Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, as well as clients such as the NZ Transport Agency, on the protection of heritage buildings and archaeological sites.
