Career
Santiago Hurtado is a partner and Head in Dentons’ Litigation and Dispute Resolution and Restructuring and Insolvency practices in Spain.
He advises boards of directors in insolvency and refinancing situations and financial institutions on bank restructuring and litigation.
He has more than 20 years’ experience in litigation and corporate matters related to shareholder conflicts as well as distressed and special situations. He has extensive experience in banking litigation, judicial administration proceedings, execution of bank guarantees, commercial litigation, conflicts between partners and unfair competition.
He advises both financial institutions and debtors on complex restructuring and insolvency matters, including some of the largest insolvency proceedings ever filed in the Spanish market. His restructuring and insolvency work also includes advising in the purchase and sale of production units, refinancing agreements and the approval of refinancing agreements.
A former state attorney for various Spanish government ministries, he served as the President of the Special Commission of the Ministry of Justice for the reform of Bankruptcy Law which created Act 38/2001. As Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice, he also coordinated the reforms of the Arbitration Law of 2011, Revised Text of the Companies Law of 2010 and Civil Procedure Law of 2009 and 2011.
