Position

Udayan is a banking and project finance lawyer with extensive experience of a wide variety of project finance, structured trade finance, restructuring, general banking and Islamic finance transactions in the Middle East and internationally. Since joining Dentons in February 2007, he has worked on a number of major project financings in the infrastructure and industrial sectors within the region, acting for banks, developers, borrowers, sponsors and governments. Udayan advises on both English law and UAE law transactions.

Prior to joining Dentons, Udayan worked for a magic circle firm as an associate in the banking and project finance group in both the London and Tokyo offices, and also as in-house counsel supporting the Project Finance Department of a large investment bank in London. He has also undertaken a secondment at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation when he was working in Tokyo.

Career

ACWA Power, Oman: Advising the consortium comprising ACWA Power, Gulf Investment Corporation and Alternative Energy Projects Co. on the conventional and Islamic financing of the Ibri II Independent Power Producer (IPP), which will be Oman's largest utility-scale solar PV Independent Power Project, generating 500 MW of renewable power. Standard Chartered Bank, UAE: Advising a syndicate of banks on the AED900 million term and revolving facilities to Aujan Coca Cola Beverages Company. The Commodity Murabaha was funded by UAE and Saudi banks. Emirates Steel Murabaha Financing, UAE: Advising Emirates Steel in relation to US$400 million murabaha financing with a number of UAE and international banks. Sumitomo Chemical - Petro Rabigh, Saudi Arabia: Advised on its participation in the US$8 billion expansion of the refining and petrochemical complex in Saudi Arabai owned and operated by Rabigh Refining & Petrochemical Company (Petro Rabigh). The project included a US$1 billion captive IWSPP. The project was supported by JBIC and PIF and included two Islamic tranches of funding, as well as a conventional tranche.
