Career

Daniel is a European and UK Patent Attorney. He entered the patent profession in 2009, after completing a PhD in Plant Molecular Biology and undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge. He trained to become a European and UK patent attorney at another top-tier patent firm, before joining J A Kemp’s Cambridge office as an associate in 2017. Dan became a partner in 2020.

Much of Dan’s practice is focused on helping his clients obtain European patent protection for their inventions, but he also has extensive experience of preparing new patent applications; handling international and foreign cases; monitoring third party patent applications; and opposing/defending granted patents at the European Patent Office (EPO). Additionally, his practice has included managing pan-European portfolios of supplementary protection certificate (SPC) applications and providing infringement, patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions.

Dan represents a wide range of clients, including a world-leading seed company, a top US biotech company, a renowned UK university, as well as Japanese, Korean and US law firms. He offers expertise across a wide range of scientific disciplines, including plant molecular biology, genetic modification, antibody-based technologies, microbiology, vaccines, diagnostics and medical devices.

Using his knowledge of the Korean language and culture, Dan enjoys making regular trips to Seoul to establish new connections and build relationships with his existing clients.
