Career
Tom has 20 years' experience in the trade mark profession and a significant track record in advising a broad range of clients on all aspects of trade mark and design clearance, prosecution, portfolio management, enforcement and dispute resolution, including in relation to some of the world's most well-known brands. Tom's clients include household names in the publishing, luxury goods, food, clothing, e-commerce/online, charity and tech sectors.
Tom strives to give clients practical, cost-effective and above all commercial advice that will enable them to make effective and efficient use of their trade mark and design rights in order to further their business interests. Tom is additionally qualified as a litigator and holds the Higher Courts Litigation Certificate, which enables him to conduct IP litigation in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and the High Court and on appeal to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
Tom has taught student members of CITMA taking their final examinations for a number of years and is a former Examiner for the Joint Examination Board (JEB). Tom has also been guest speaker at several external conferences in the UK and abroad including on the main program of the International Trade Mark Association's (INTA) Annual Meeting. Tom currently sits on the European & Central Asia sub-committee for INTA's Non-Traditional Trade Marks committee.
Tom joined J A Kemp in 2010 after working in the Simmons & Simmons Intellectual Property Group, as well as other private practice firms.
