Career
Chris is a European and UK Patent Attorney based in our London office. He handles patent work covering a broad range of chemical technologies, including small-molecule pharmaceuticals, chemical/enzymatic modification of biological molecules for pharmaceutical uses, pharmaceutical formulations, plant protection products, industrial processes and catalysts, and oil and fuel additives.
As part of his work on pharmaceuticals and plant protection products, Chris is a member of J A Kemp’s team specialising in SPCs (Supplementary Protection Certificates). He is experienced in filing and prosecuting SPCs and patent term extensions for pharmaceutical and plant protection products throughout the world. He also advises clients on how to optimise their patent strategy in view of future SPC filings.
Chris has considerable experience of attacking and defending patents at the European Patent Office and has been involved in several high profile cases in the anti-viral field. His expertise extends to cases where the EPO opposition has been just one aspect of global litigation. He understands how to formulate a global strategy alongside teams of litigators from multiple jurisdictions.
Chris drafts, files and prosecutes patent applications at the EPO and throughout the rest of the world for a variety of clients, including many based in Scandinavia. Chris frequently visits Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
Chris also has extensive experience of prosecuting Indian patent applications for European-based clients. He ensures that his knowledge of Indian patent law is kept up to date with regular trips to India.
Chris joined J A Kemp in 2005 and became a partner in 2015.
