Senior Associate, Patent Attorney

Career

Lucy works primarily in the computer software, physics, and electrical engineering sectors. She is involved with all stages of the patent process, including drafting and prosecution of applications, and handling both offensive and defensive EPO oppositions and appeals. She also has experience performing Freedom-To-Operate searches, providing detailed opinions on patent infringement and validity, and advising on proceedings before the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, UKIPO and EPO.

Lucy is a strong advocate for inclusion and diversity. She is a member of the Mewburn Ellis Inclusion and Diversity Collaboration Group, and a founding member of our WoMEn of Mewburn Ellis Network.

She is also Committee Lead for IP Inclusive’s Women in IP group, which focuses on tackling issues that people face as women within the IP profession.

Lucy is recognised as a WIPR Diversity 2023 ‘Trailblazer’. These are women with a decade or less experience in the IP industry that stand out due to their impressive practice in IP and their determination to promote inclusion and diversity within the sector.

Lucy works with a wide range of clients in the UK, Europe, Japan and the US. They include individuals, start-ups, UK-based SMEs and multinational corporations.

Education

Lucy has an MPhys (Hons) degree in physics from the University of Manchester. She joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2016, qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2019 and European Patent Attorney in 2021. She has a Diploma in Patent Litigation in Europe from the University of Strasbourg.
