Career

Rebecca has experience in all aspects of the patenting process, including original drafting, filing strategy and prosecution, which means that she is ideally placed to advise clients in these areas.

She assists clients with oppositions and appeals at the EPO, with specific experience in opposing and defending patents covering antibody-based therapies. Rebecca also has a particular interest in assisting clients with due diligence and freedom-to-operate projects, with experience in a wide range of technologies.

Rebecca’s highly technical background is in cell biology, and she has a keen interest in a broad range of other technical areas, including cell therapies, the microbiome, and plant biology.

Rebecca works with a range of organisations including multinational companies and start-ups. Her clients are based predominantly in Europe, Japan, the USA, and Singapore, providing a varied and global outlook in her work.

Education

Rebecca has a BSc and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Bristol. During her undergraduate degree, Rebecca spent 12 months at a pharmaceutical company where her research project focused on the use of quantitative PCR and animal models to assess disease progression.

Following her PhD, Rebecca worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of North Carolina in the USA, where her research focused on cell migration during wound healing and cancer. She joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2021 and qualified as a European Patent Attorney in the same year. She also qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2022.
