Career

Simon has more than 25 years’ experience working as a European and UK patent attorney working in the life sciences sector. He provides clear and practical advice on all aspects of patents and other IP rights including drafting, prosecution, inter partes proceedings and due diligence. He is regularly involved in oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office and covers a wide variety of technical fields, including physical biochemistry, therapeutics, diagnostics, genetics, chemistry and mechanical subject matter.

Simon’s clients include individual inventors, universities, spin-outs, SMEs, technology transfer organisations, charities and multinational companies in Europe, US and other jurisdictions.

He worked for the UK Ministry of Defence intellectual property rights department before joining Mewburn Ellis LLP in 1997, qualifying as a European Patent Attorney in 1996 and Chartered Patent Attorney in 1997. He joined the partnership in 1999.

Education

Simon has a BSc (Hons.) degree and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Bristol.
