Career

I have over 20 years’ experience in the field of intellectual property and a background in IT consulting and software engineering.

Having worked in industry as an IT consultant at Logica, I have first-hand experience of clients’ IP objectives. Later, as a software research engineer at Sony working on video processing and cryptography, I was an inventor on around 50 patent families, so I know how to work with inventors and speak their language, getting around a whiteboard and guiding them through the IP process. I make the most of this background to ensure that our clients’ experiences are as positive, accessible and straightforward as possible.

I mostly focus on areas of technology that lie close to the border between patentable and non-patentable subject-matter: software, algorithms, machine learning, business methods, mathematics, etc. Many of my clients work in emerging technologies that push the limits of what is or is not patent-eligible, and that call for creative solutions to successfully navigate the IP challenges they bring.

I work for a diverse range of clients, from large multinationals to universities and smaller, more local businesses. With a passion for maths, software and IT, anything remotely related to these fields piques my interest: artificial intelligence, cryptography and data security, database management and optimisation, audio/video processing, data compression and network communications, to name but a few.
