Richard joined Elkington and Fife LLP in October 2005 and qualified as a chartered patent attorney in 2008 and a European patent attorney in 2010. Richard has experience in prosecuting pharmaceutical applications worldwide including applications covering broad genus claims, selections, stereoisomers including diastereoisomers and enantiomers, combinations, polymorphs, salts and processes. Richard has also prepared many infringement and validity opinions, and represented patentees and opponents in opposition and appeal proceedings at the EPO. Specialist technical fields include: materials science; medical technology; organic chemistry; pharmaceuticals. Areas of expertise include: freedom to operate opinions; oppositions and appeals; regulatory data exclusivity; validity and infringement opinions.
