Position

Stuart is a Partner in the patents team, a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney.

Career

Stuart entered the patent profession in 2009, joined Maucher Jenkins in 2010 and became partner in January 2021.

Stuart works with a variety of technologies across mechanical engineering and green technology. In particular, he has experience in renewable energy systems, and energy efficiency systems in vehicles. For example, Stuart has worked on technologies that improve the efficiency of various aspects of energy-from-waste systems, as well as working on tidal energy systems, waste-heat recovery systems, tyre pressure regulation, adjustable pitch propellers and floating houses.

Stuart also works on a wide range of other technologies including air-conditioning systems, household appliances, multimedia broadcast and reception/storage systems, database management and information retrieval, LCD displays, telecommunications, and computer hardware.

Stuart provides clients with advice on patent drafting, patent prosecution, international portfolio management, advising regarding filing strategy, and patent searching. He works with a variety of clients, from multinationals to individual inventors.

Stuart’s client Kew Technology Ltd was officially nominated for The Earthshot Prize by CIPA in 2023. He appeared in CIPA’s Two IPs in a Pod podcast with Kew Technology to discuss the IP journey associated with their invention leading to their Earthshot Prize nomination. Stuart also appeared alongside Kew Technology in explaining the importance of patents to protecting and expanding their technology.
