Matthew is a Senior Associate in the Patents department, a Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and a Registered Representative before the Unified Patent Court.

Career

Matthew grew up in Hong Kong and moved to the UK for his higher education, graduating from Christ’s College, University of Cambridge with first-class honours in Natural Sciences, and an MMath, specialising in Physics. He subsequently completed a PhD in Particle Physics at Durham University on full scholarship, during which he spent a period of time working in Germany.

Matthew joined Maucher Jenkins in 2013 and qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney in 2017. He has accumulated much experience in prosecuting patent applications before the UKIPO, EPO and patent offices around the world, including but not limited to the US, China and Japan. He is also experienced in drafting, searching, and advising and managing the IP portfolios of diverse clients. Subject-matter in Matthew’s work encompasses energy distribution systems, telecommunications, consumer products and industrial machinery, from medical devices to satellite phones via racing cars.

Matthew spent five months in China in 2018 to 2019 helping to set up Maucher Jenkins’ new office in Shenzhen.

Matthew particularly enjoys working with clients from different countries and backgrounds, and providing advice that befits their individual circumstances and needs.
