Career
Justin is a specialist family law barrister practising in all areas of family law, dealing with disputes in respect of both children and finances. Justin provides regular seminars for solicitors, conducts advocacy training, and is a co-creator of The Advocacy Podcast.
Practice overview
Justin appears in private cases about children including where allegations of domestic or sexual abuse are made, contested international and internal relocation cases, and where the local authority or a children’s guardian are involved.
He appears in financial proceedings following the breakdown of relationships including contested hearings in which claims are made under TOLATA, and on applications for financial support under Schedule 1.
In care proceedings he appears for local authorities, children’s guardians, parents and other family members in cases including historical sexual abuse allegations, children giving evidence, complex neurological disorders, international placements, and other complicating factors.
Justin’s studies at University and for the Bar were all supported by scholarships and bursaries, and he received prizes for individual and overall results. His post-graduate studies included research into law and policy relating to surrogacy, and focused on international and comparative family law and policy.
Justin worked in the family law department at the Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia (a legal aid organisation for Aboriginal Australians), assisting on private and public child disputes and financial matters, before coming to the Bar.
