Career
Thomas Pye joined Chambers following the successful completion of his pupillage in October 2020. Prior to joining Chambers, he worked extensively in professional discipline, ultimately managing a team of in-house presenting officers and case managers, undertaking fitness-to-practise prosecutions for a national health and social care regulator. With many of his cases involving Social Workers, Tom profoundly understands the challenges faced by practitioners, Local Authorities, and the families they serve.
As a Presenting Officer, Tom regularly appeared before disciplinary tribunals on behalf of the regulator, handling a wide range of contested proceedings. He has substantial experience in cases involving serious allegations, such as sexual misconduct, child sexual abuse and indecent images, substance abuse, and acute mental health issues. This experience has given him a strong foundation in analysing medical evidence, interpreting psychological and psychiatric reports, engaging with instructed experts, and working sensitively with vulnerable parties and witnesses.
During his BPTC, Tom demonstrated a commitment to access to justice by volunteering with the Family Advice Scheme, where he provided pro bono ‘on the day’ representation and advice at court for individuals no longer eligible for Legal Aid in private family law proceedings. He also volunteered with the National Centre for Domestic Violence, further emphasising his dedication to supporting vulnerable clients.
