Position

Richard is a specialist in family law, focusing on private law disputes and care proceedings relating to children. He is an effective, direct and caring advisor to parents, children, guardians and local authorities. He has particular expertise in representing victims of neglect and abuse, and is known for his careful handling of highly emotional cases with a sensitive and empathetic manner.

A highly experienced barrister, Richard’s private law work covers national and international cases, including those with Rule 16.4 Guardians.

His friendly yet firm approach is well regarded by clients, solicitors and judges alike, and Richard prides himself on his quick response to client enquires and being accessible out of hours.  At court, Richard’ is a strong advocate who gets straight to the point.

Career

Called 1999, Richard maintains a very busy mixed family law practice, representing all parties on a regular basis and at all levels of court. He skilfully and empathetically handles private law disputes between parents and spouses concerning children, abuse and occupation of property.

In relation to care proceedings, Richard has appeared in numerous cases involving abuse and non-accidental injury at all stages within proceedings. He is frequently appearing in the High Court.

In relation to private law disputes between parents, Richard has appeared in numerous cases including those involving implacably hostile parents, case involving a change of residence of children and cases involving the relocation of children both within the jurisdiction and outside.
