John is a Partner and Group Head of the Commercial team in Gatwick.

John specialises in technology, commercial contracts and intellectual property law.

John has wide experience of advising on all areas of commercial law and business matters including advice on commercial agreements, IP rights, and data protection and freedom of information issues.

Before qualifying as a lawyer, John had a long and varied career in the music and media industry where he developed first hand commercial expertise.

John works with clients to ensure they have in place robust contracts that reduce risk and increase value. Areas covered include: terms of sale/business; manufacturing, distribution and agency agreements; rights’ management, data export/import arrangements, and commercial diligence.

Work highlights Advised Kelsey Publishing Limited, a major magazine publisher whose portfolio includes periodicals such as Psychologies, Period Homes, Triathlon Plus, and Outdoor Fitness, on several deals, both acquisitions and sales including IP assets worth in the region of £4.5 million Advised the shareholders of East Sussex-based illustrated publisher Ilex Press on its sale to Octopus Publishing Group, part of Hatchette UK Advised the shareholders of East Sussex-based Lewes Holding Group, and Ivy Press, on its sale to Quarto Publishing plc Advised Open Fundraising on the reorganisation of its business to show for future growth
