Position

Rebecca appears almost exclusively in the Court of Protection in relation to health and welfare. She has great experience in the Court of Protection and acts in a range of Court of Protection matters including, deprivation of liberty cases, disputed capacity cases, best interests decisions involving both elderly adults and younger adults who lack capacity, and serious medical treatment cases. Rebecca also acts and advises in matters involving the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court.

In addition to representing local authorities across the North West, and the Public Guardian, she regularly represents family members, parents and individuals who lack capacity, by their litigation friends or accredited legal representatives. She is regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor.

Rebecca is experienced in Forced Marriage Protection Orders, where capacity is often in issue, the inherent jurisdiction involving issues surrounding the deprivation of liberty of younger people, nearest relative displacement proceedings and cases involving property and affairs in the Court of Protection.

Rebecca is recognised for her thorough preparation, attention to detail, effective advocacy and cross examination and her excellent working relationships with lay clients and experts. She is both pragmatic and empathetic. Rebecca places particular emphasis upon an efficient and effective ‘team approach’ and welcomes being able to provide informal advice on potential cases at an early stage.

In 2016 Rebecca obtained a distinction in her LLM in Law, Medicine and Health Care from the University of Liverpool.

Rebecca is a reviewer on the Bar Pro Bono panel and has acted pro bono in the Court of Protection.

She regularly presents seminars and training covering all welfare aspects of the Court of Protection.
