Career

Prior to commencing pupillage, Mira worked on the Grenfell Inquiry as a solicitor with Bindmans, representing bereaved, survivors and residents.

She completed her training contract at Broudie Jackson Canter (BJC) solicitors, focusing on inquests and high value clinical negligence claims. Mira worked as a paralegal on the Hillsborough Inquests for 3 years as part of the BJC team, representing 22 bereaved families.

Before commencing her legal career, Mira spent two years working in the Middle East as a junior consultant for To-Excel. She worked on a wide range of human rights and socio-economic projects for clients including UN Women, UNICEF, UNFPA and the Jordanian National Commission for Women. Her work included field research and was particularly focused on gender-based violence.

Position

Mira Hammad specialises in Inquests and Inquiries and Criminal Defence including Protest Rights.

Mira is currently instructed as part of a team representing a large number of clients bereaved as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Mira was recently instructed as part of a team representing bereaved families in relation to the Manchester Arena Inquiry.

Mira is seconded part-time to the Hickman Rose Grenfell Inquiry Team, which represents bereaved, survivors and residents. Mira has also represented bereaved families in inquests arising from deaths in very varied and often complex circumstances.

Mira’s criminal defence work focuses particularly on defending protestors. Mira represents protestors both in the Magistrates and the Crown Court. She has experience successfully defending a wide range of protest related offences, including aggravated trespass, blocking a public highway, criminal damage, s.241 TUA, harassment, public order offences and offences against police officers.

Education

LLB (Hons), LPC, BTT Mira studied Law at the London School of Economics, graduating in 2011. She obtained an LPC in 2018 and transferred to the Bar in 2019.
