Position

Laura Phillips (2009) is a specialist regulatory lawyer with a particular interest in food hygiene/food safety, consumer protection and health and safety law. She advises and acts for individuals, companies, local authorities and other regulatory authorities and the CPS across proceedings in the civil, criminal and appellate courts, and at tribunals, inquiries and inquests. She is an experienced trial advocate, mindful of the need to provide timely, practical and commercially sensitive advice.

She acted for the successful appellant in R v Butt [2018] EWCA Crim 1617 which sets out the approach to be taken to sentencing in fire safety offences. She also acted as junior to David Travers QC representing the defendant company in a fatal food poisoning (London Borough of Havering v Mitchells and Butlers PLC, 2015) and to Stephen Hockman QC representing a company prosecuted in relation to a serious electrical injury on a construction site for an Olympic venue (Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea v Aggreko PLC, 2016).
