Position
Amrit has a diverse practice with a particular focus on commercial litigation and public and regulatory law, advising and representing both individuals and companies in all levels of Court and Tribunal.
Amrit is currently junior counsel to the Dame Linda Dobbs Review considering whether issues relating to HBOS Reading were investigated and appropriately reported to authorities following Lloyd Banking Group’s acquisition of HBOS. She has also recently been appointed to the UK’s COVID-19 inquiry to assist with considering the government’s economic response to the pandemic and its impact.
Career
Having been awarded the Pegasus Trust Scholarship, Amrit will be spending three months working in Dubai from October 2022. She will be working at Al-Tamimi and Co, the largest commercial law firm in the MENA region, the DIFC Courts, and in-house at China State Construction.
Alongside her practice, Amrit is a civil and commercial mediator and is growing her international arbitration practice. Amrit is an appointed member of the Bar Council’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Panel, the Young Barristers’ Committee, and is a co-opted member of the Bar European Group.
Prior to joining the Bar, Amrit worked for UBS both in New York and London and subsequently for Barclays in London. She worked with significant financial regulations such as, Dodd Frank and the European Market Infrastructure Regulation and developed her understanding of the interplay between law and finance. Amrit also worked with Mr Justice Picken in the High Court of Justice (Commercial Court), where she assisted with drafting, legal research and gained a unique perspective on considering and understanding complex commercial litigation. Her experience prior to coming to the Bar allows her to provide commercial acumen and pragmatic advice to clients, robustly and efficiently.
Amrit has a particular interest in Wildlife Photography and when not in Court or Chambers, she can be found behind a camera lens.
